FODEMI Visits World Vision Area Development Project Pujilí
In the month of April, several members of the FODEMI staff visited a World Vision Area Development Project (ADP) located in Pujilí, a mountain village near Latacunga. During this visit they had opportunity to talk to the director of the project Mr. Angel LLamuca, to learn about the work of this ADP and to share ideas about community development.
About Angel LLamuca Angel Llamuca is an Agricultural Engineer and has worked for the ADP Pujilí for about 7 months now. He has two children, one in high school and one in primary school. Angel´s wife also contributes to the improvement of lives of children, as a teacher in the nearby town of Yanaorco de Saquisili. Angel is very dedicated to the ADP and says it has been a great experience so far. He feels it is good to be in contact with the realities of the communities that World Vision works with in Ecuador. Angel is very motivated in working with this project, and extending a hand to the communities whenever possible.
The ADP Pujilí World Vision has determined numerous areas in Ecuador to be Area Development Projects (ADPs) where they offer support to sponsorchildren and local communities. FODEMI, as an affiliate of World Vision, works together with various ADP projects by offering financial services to the members of the community and supporting other initiatives taken by the ADP. The ADP Pujilí has existed for over 10 years and currently has 6 employees working in the area to support the member communities in a highly effective way The project currently supports 1655 sponsor children and benefits over 1200 families in 15 different communities.
Projects Carried Out by the ADP Pujilí This particular ADP executes a wide range of projects related to health, education, infrastructure and water. With respect to health, the ADP sponsors medical attention required by community members, particularly when it concerns special cases. For example, they have sponsored 4 heart surgeries and have recently sponsored an intestinal operation, desperately needed by a village member.
As part of its education program, the ADP Pujilí has given out 50 scholarships for 9 different elementary schools and 1 high school. Furthermore, they cover the salaries of 10 different school teachers, in subjects such as computer classes and English. They have supplied a local high school with 3 computers and supply elementary schools with books. Furthermore, each child receives a $5 contribution towards the purchase of required school materials such as backpacks and school uniforms. Through these projects, children are not only given an incentive, but are given the tools to do well in school and keep improving every day. Next to these programs, the ADP Pujilí also works towards improving local infrastructure, in the form of water irrigation and water purification projects. They currently have 4 different projects to improve irrigation systems and have been working together with FODEMI and the Ministry of Social Well-being on 3 different projects to supply various communities with water. FODEMI sends many blessings to Angel Llamunca and his staff at the ADP Pujilí. We wish them the best of luck in all their projects and we look forward to continue working together to improve the lives of children and families in these communities.
