FCMIC
In 1999 a group of 20 Christian families in lower Connecticut (Fairfield County) got together and heard the story of microlending in Ecuador. The National Director of WV Ecuador (Jose Falconi) came to Darien to tell the story. In March, 2000 three members of the council made their first trip to Ibarra and began to learn about MED and meet the FODEMI staff. At the time the loan portfolio totaled $150,000 and there were about 500 clients. Also at the time there was an office in Ibarra and Latacunga. One of the ideas FODEMI put forward was to open an office in Otavalo. The council was part of the effort to raise capital for that purpose. The group started traveling regularly to Ecuador (three times a year) for the purpose of visiting clients and working with the staff to build FODEMI. The FCMIC continues to support FODEMI in its work, constantly learning more about microcredit and Eucador and visit Ecuador to see FODEMI's clients. They are proud to watch FODEMI as it fulfills its desidnation as one of the premier Microenterprise develoment organizations afiliated with World Vision.
